Kevin David Anderson’s NIGHT SOUNDS: From Podcast to Print

Frantic, hungry claws scraping against wood… The whining of a drill as it grinds through bone… The ravings of a lunatic amid the honking of gridlocked cars… Agonized shrieks through the phone line, followed by the rending of flesh… The hypnotic, deadly tones of a calliope on a warm summer night… When the sun goes down and darkness claims the land… When the silence descends, isolating the lonely, the desperate, the weak… These are the

NIGHT SOUNDS

you would hear, should you care to listen. And just below it, if you strain your ears, you will hear what the night sounds mask… The sounds of human suffering, the music of the night.

Night Sounds: From Podcast to Print is a collection of scary, sometimes humorous stories, mostly written for popular fiction podcasts. The book is a throwback to Anderson’s earliest fiction influences, what we now call Old Time Radio.

Available in print and for Kindle (other digital formats to follow).

Deathlehem 2022 Cover Reveal

General Announcements, New Releases, Publications

Well, the holidays are rolling around once more, and that means one thing around here… A trip to Deathlehem. For folks not familiar with this project, Deathlehem is an annual anthology series featuring tales of holiday horror that benefits the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

How this project came about is kind of a long story, which is highlighted in the introduction of the very first anthology, O Little Town of Deathlehem.

Jeffrey Kosh, who has designed all the Deathlehem covers since the beginning back in 2013, never fails to deliver, and this year we feel he has done another amazing job. Quite often he starts thinking about the following year’s Deathlehem as soon as the current volume releases and we’ll get mock-ups soon after we announce that the submission window is open, which is normally in January. From there, we usually come up with the title. This year, however, we got mock-ups later. You can’t rush the creative process. So, after seeing the images Jeffrey sent us, we came up with this year’s title. Deathlehem 2022’s title is ‘Twas the Fright Before Christmas in Deathlehem. And the cover… <<drumroll please>>

Martin “Wags” Wagner, an aging catcher relegated to a minor-league affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, is offered a new assignment—take a promising young pitcher under his wing and show him the ropes. Martin’s manager is cagey about the new player, giving only his name, Andrei Dinescu, and his country of origin, Moldova. Despite the mysterious circumstances, Martin accepts the assignment, hoping to earn a return to the big leagues.

After his first bullpen session with the new pitcher, Martin is stunned by Andrei’s lack of physical ability and his unfamiliarity with baseball. However, with each passing week, Andrei’s strength and skill grow exponentially, and his miraculous leaps in both ability and pitch velocity frighten Martin. His fear is compounded by the organization’s obvious attempts to keep Andrei separated from the rest of the team. COMING FALL 2022

Martin Wagner, an aging catcher in the San Francisco Giants farm system, is offered a new assignment—take a promising young pitcher under his wing and show him the ropes. Martin’s manager is cagey about the new player, giving only his name, Andrei Dinescu, and his country of origin, Moldova. Despite the mysterious circumstances, Martin accepts the assignment, hoping to earn a return to the big leagues.

After his first bullpen session with the strange new pitcher, Martin is shocked by Andrei’s lack of physical ability and his unfamiliarity with the game of baseball. However, with each passing week, Andrei’s strength and skill grow exponentially, and his miraculous leaps in both ability and velocity begin to frighten Martin. This fear is compounded by the organization’s obvious attempts to keep Andrei separated from the rest of the team.

At the height of his prowess, Andrei is put into the rotation for his first start with Martin behind the plate. Before the game, the manager offers a devil’s bargain, and the source of Andrei Dinescu’s bizarre abilities becomes horrifically clear. Martin is faced with a desperate choice: walk away from baseball and everything he has known or deal with the monster on the mound and earn his way back to the majors.

Seven long years have passed since Betty-June Gray and her son, Jesus, escaped the horrific events that befell them on the Tucker farm.
